Canvas2

For no reason, I picked up Canvas2 to watch after finishing off Banner of the Stars. Only 4 episodes in, but I’m finding it especially enjoyable. I had initially shrugged it off as generic harem when it was aired since a certain red-haired loli and white devil was my focus that time, but I myself proven wrong now and it’s more of a romance harem instead.

What I like about it is most probably that none of the characters for now are being portrayed as perfect, as everyone has their own problems which comes into play as the main focus of the stories as they deal with it with the help of one another, for instance Hiroki going for a date with Hagino to help her in her novel writing and Elis advising Misaki to give her confidence.

The humour of the series is also very nicely done in and aren’t 95% fanservice humour, typical of harem animes. Instead, the element of moé comes into play a lot here, most notably in the episode previews done by Elis and Hiroki who discuss about the *moé zokusei* of characters in focus the next episode. I’m actually spending time to watch the previews, of which I rarely ever do when I marathon series.

Looking forward for the rest of the storyline for now. I haven’t picked a favourite yet, as everyone is kinda appealing in their own manner. For those who’ve watched, no spoilers plz :).

Angry Belldandy is scary Belldandy

Ah! My Goddess

Making her mad has gotta rank as one of the stupidest things to do, ever.

As usual with me on the end of a season and the eve of a new one, I find myself craving for old classics, while others expound on the loveliness of the new shows. Don’t ask me why.

On a sidenote, so many deadlines to catch up on @_@.

Aa! Megami-sama TV Episode 25 & 26

Source : Aa! Megami-sama TV OST

Two extra episodes that weren’t aired during the TV run of the series and only released in DVD format.

Episode 25 and 26 covers events in the manga right after the **Terrible Master Urd** arc, where the goddesses have trouble getting energy to retain their forms due to the **Yggdrasil** crash caused earlier on. The results in **Belldandy** having to morph into *chibi* form (a.k.a ***CHOU KAWAII!!!***), **Urd** regressing into her child stage and **Skuld** having a growth spurt resulting in adulthood.

In Episode 25, **Urd** is the first victim as she turns into loli mode and flirts around with a *hikikomori*-ish boy while Episode 26 focuses on **Skuld**, as she turns into an adult, a darn sexy one at that too, so she takes the chance to have some fun as an adult, like wearing sexy evening gowns, high heels and taking wedding pictures with **K1**.

Both episodes are nicely made and in tune with current times, check out the **PDP** that **Urd’s** playing ;). Should’ve updated the dialouge though, the kid was still referring to “A” and “B” buttons :P. The production values just really blow you away and even with the LQ raw, I still managed to enjoy myself. I really should get the DVD versions of the Aa! Megami-sama TV.

The best part of both episodes for me was how both Urd and Skuld’s *seiyuu’s* managed to fit their voices into their character changes. Both **Yumi Touma** and **Aya Hisakawa** did a fine job changing their voices to loli mode and adult mode respectively. Especially **Aya Hisakawa** doing the adult **Skuld** voice of which added in +25 Sekushii. I’m starting to become an **Aya Hisakawa** junkie too T_T.

Rozen Maiden Träumend 02

During the battle, Bara Suishou grabs ahold of Hollie and suddenly recognizes Shinku. Shinku is reminded of the fight with Suigin Tou and her desire to fight weakens. Things look bad as Bara Suishou glows and powers up for super saiyin mode, but a rabbit hole conveniently opens up beneath them, and they are tossed back through the mirror. While the Rabbit taunts Bara Suishou, Shinku asks Jun to keep the awakening of Bara Suishou a secret from the others, because it means that the Alice Game has begun.

In keeping her secret, Shinku distances herself from everyone. Jun is concerned about her, but they end up squabbling and saying some pretty mean things. Suisei Seki fools Hina Ichigo into thinking that Shinku’s mad about Hina Ichigo’s pochette crossing over the border, but Sousei Seki realizes that it must have to do with the Alice Game. As Tomoe takes Jun to a doll shop (where a man who looks like Father works in the back), Sousei Seki finds out the truth. This sets up the scene for a nice reconciliation as the sister agree to stick together, and Jun gives everyone a cute little music box. Shinku is so pleased about this, she puts the music box in her Kun-kun shrine. Now, there’s just one little sister left to find…

Although not a whole lot happened, there were a lot of interesting minor points of interest that popped up. Suisei Seki and Sousei Seki finally used the front door, and we learn that there is still one undiscovered Rozen Maiden. Furthermore, it seems that Bara Suishou has never been awake at the same time as everyone else. Mysterious! Other great moments include Suisei Seki standing up for the dignity of all watering pots, that long awkward silence as Tomoe and Jun listen to the doll salesman Shirosaki, and the further reinforcement of Shinku’s fangirl tendencies. I bet she even has a Kun-kun website that’s part of the Kun-kun Webring.

Rozen Maiden Träumend Review

First off, I’m going to just assume there will be a third series. There is simply no way for there not to be. The first series ended in a way that at least had some closure, but Rozen Maiden Traumend essentially left us on an extended cliffhanger. What is the alternative way to become Alice? Can the other Rozen Maidens be revived? Will the real Bara Suishou please stand up? And what’s going on with that silly rabbit that doesn’t know that tricks are for kids?

On it’s own, Rozen Maiden Traumend had a lot going for it. The most successful aspect of the 12 episodes was the way it gave the viewers much deeper insight into the various dolls. In the first season, we really only got to know Shinku, and possibly Suisei Seki, but this time we got a really good look at Suigin Tou, Suisei Seki, and Hina Ichigo. Newcomers Kanaria and Bara Suishou were welcome additions, and Sousei Seki was as boring as ever (although she was revealed to be a know-it-all). Whereas last time the focus was on Jun and his hardships, the focus this time was almost entirely on the dolls and the Alice Game.

In terms of story, I’m a little ambivalent. The first few episodes were slow, plot-wise, but lots of fun. However, the way the action picked up so quickly near the last 3 episodes made it almost unbearable when the series simply ended without much resolution. I was also disappointed that they didn’t play the fantastic battle music from the first season, especially during the Megaman fight sequence between Shinku and Bara Suishou. Speaking of music, most of the music was reused, but I liked the new OP (wailing banshees and all) and ED.

On its own, Rozen Maiden Traumend is a bit iffy, but if it’s simply part of a larger series, I think there is a lot of potential for the whole story to be really super. I bet they could wrap everything up completely in 6 episodes. Or a long movie. Really I’d be happy with whatever resolution I could get. Even as I write this, my mind is abuzz with questions (Is Rozen supposed to be like God or something? How did he get his shirt so white? Where are the Elric brothers?). I really enjoyed the ride, but Rozen Maiden Traumend left way too many loose ends to be considered a complete success on its own.

LaPlace lays down the challenge: appear at the agreed upon N-field tomorrow morning. Shinku and Suisei Seki know they have to fight, but Suisei Seki wants Kanaria to stay behind. It’s time Kanaria knew the truth: her attacks are annoying, but quite frankly they are weak as hell. After a hearty breakfast of flower-topped hamburger (Suisei Seki is like “OMG protein”), it’s time for battle, and it’s clear that Suigin Tou and Bara Suishou are bringing it.

As predicted, the battle is way too much for Kanaria, and Suisei Seki has to constantly cover for her. Shinku takes on Suigin Tou, and Jun runs into the mansion to try to talk some sense into Father (aka Rozen). In helping Kanaria, Suisei Seki ends up getting hit by several chunks of crystal and is eventually crystallized. Kanaria tries to protect Suisei Seki’s Roza Mystica, but even her ougi cannot stop Bara Suishou. Sure it takes off Bara Suishou’s right arm, but when you rock the lovely eyepatch, you better have some ambidextrous skillz. As Jun and Shinku watch helplessly, Bara Suishou then proceeds to run Kanaria through… left-handed!

Damnit Nori, if only you’d made some damn carbohydrates for breakfast, the battle wouldn’t have gone so badly! It was plain to see that all that protein wasn’t giving Suisei Seki and Shinku the ready energy they needed. I’m glad Suisei Seki finally set Kanaria straight about the power of the violin attacks, and in spite of how snappy she was, it was clear that Suisei Seki was really looking out for Kanaria. I’d be more sad about Suisei Seki going down, but when this many main characters bite the dust, there is usually a good chance that they’ll all be revived. Unless the series is X. Or Chrno Crusade.

Love will tear us apart

Earlier this year, I made an agreement with Owen of Cruel Angel Theses. I promised I’d try to watch True Tears if he would step-up to one of my recent favorites too; none other thanShigurui. True to form, Owen came through on his side of the agreement almost instantly, and here I am, many months later, still lagging behind. So, it’s now or never, and about time I made good on my promise.

True Tears.

I liked it. A lot.

It’s regrettable that, ostensibly, True Tears doesn’t look particularly special; rather, it has all the hallmarks of just another generic harem anime. In other words, it looks like a formulaic, romantic fantasy where one boy is at the centre of this romantic tug-of-war between a group of doting girls. Of course, I know it picked up a lot of praise from the fan community, but I’m quite sensitive to the ways that many fans seem to confuse quality story-telling with quality fan-service. Was True Tears merely good harem, or good anime full-stop?

True Tears is good anime, and like all good anime, transcends its genre. Not by being flashy, or trying to do anything obviously different, but simply by exploring its cast, each episode digging a little deeper, beneath its familiar surface and into these warm, desperate people.

I don’t want to delve too deeply into the plot, but I do want to write something about love-sick Aiko, one of the three girls secretly chasing the affection of tortured artist Shinichirō. According to the status quo, Aiko has been a friend of Shinichirō for a long time, but she has quietly fallen in-love with him. So much so, she will even hook-up with his best friend; anything to be closer to him, even if that closeness is a lie. Alas, she was always destined to fail.

Because of all that, Aiko was my favorite character. I suppose she always knew her crush would be unrequited, but that she kept on clinging to that tiny shred of hope for so long is such a hopelessly human thing to do. In lesser anime, that rejection would be the last we see of her, as a broken, weeping heart, but as the series moves on, we see her recover some self-confidence.

Her life goes on, and her love that once seemed so vital just fades away. It’s a love story and a study of love itself, the ways that such a feeling can destroy people, suffocate them, and hurt them. These characters are literally battered and bruised by their feelings. You can almost hear the echoes of Joy Division.

“When love, love will tear us apart again.”

Thinking back to a dramatic crescendo or two, True Tears does often twist like a slightly cliché, soapy love story, but this existential willingness to look beyond superficial emotion, to find a sad, warm reason behind all the pain, lies and deceit of normal people, rapidly elevates its sense of poignancy and importance. This is a thoughtful, serious and compelling drama, and much better than expected.

Elfen lied anime series        even though it looks like an innocent manga with it's cute art style and cover it really is one of the bloodiest manga's i have ever read. This manga is Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Shounen, Supernatural Manga and as such it's not to be take lightly. i Suggest you turn away from this manga if you aren't very fond of Horror/bloody mangas. There are also some very Echii (near pornographic) Parts of this manga involving very far sexual actions. Although i think that the Echii part of this manga really helps a laugh at times and makes the Manga alot more enjoying to read.

The Diclonius, a mutated homo sapien that is said to be selected by God and will eventually become the destruction of mankind, possesses two horns in their heads, and has a "sixth sense" which gives it telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murder most of the guards in the laboratory, only to get shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives and manages to drift along to a beach, where two teenagers named Kouta and Yuka discovers her. Having lost her memories, she was named after the only thing that she can now say, "Nyuu," and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. However, it appears that the evil "Lucy" is not dead just yet...

The story in this manga is really exciting and thrilling and i think it has a really original story. This manga is not near as popular as the anime version but i found the anime rather disappointing because of the ending. and the fact that i was so in love with the manga at the point that i just got mad. For those who have seen the anime i can asure you that the manga continues where the anime stopped and has more exciting characters and a much better reason for it to be called "Elfen Lied" than a stupid music box.

Overall i really recommend this manga. The anime is really popular and if you didn't get enough then the manga is a great choice of action.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu illustrated by Tsugano Gaku.
Suzumiya Haruhi is an adaption of the novel about Suzumiya Haruhi by Tanigawa Nagaru. I haven't read the manga but i feel that the Anime is the same since they both are adaptions.  This anime would seem like a comedy at the start and is kind of like that throughout, but it really has a great philosophical theme which i really love.

On the first day of high school a beautiful girl named Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself as having "no interest in ordinary humans". She asks for any aliens, time travelers, sliders or espers to join her. Watching her weird behaviour is Kyon a boy who sits in front of Haruhi and is the only person who talks to her. Commenting on Haruhi's joining every club in school and then quitting Kyon unwittingly gives Haruhi an idea to start her own after school club. Thereafter Kyon and several others find themselves literally dragged into the Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade (the S.O.S. Brigade for short).

This anime have been very popular for a short manga/anime and it seems that many people want more of it. I doubt this possibility though but they can hope i guess. although the main popularity has started to die down it seems its not completely dead yet seeing as there recently was released a drama CD.

i would really like to read the Suzumiya Haruhi novel sometime. since i really enjoyed this Anime. This is an anime you really should watch. And this is not like the no name mangas i usually write about, this one is really popular too. But i kind of belive that most people just see the comedy in Suzumiya haruhi and not the very deep story behind.
shakugan no Shana

 Review

Shakugan no Shana: The Movie is about a boy, Yuji Sakai, after he “dies” when he has his existence eaten by Crimson Denizens - members of a parallel universe. At the same time, one of his classmates, Yukari, who has a crush on Yuji’s best friend Ike, “dies” as well. However, both of their existences are replaced by Shana, a Flame Haze, and they both become Torches.

After the ordeal, Yukari clearly isn’t herself, and Yuji demands to know what happened. Shana informs him that he has died and has been turned into a Torch so that their disappearance won’t disrupt the world as much. However, since they are only replacements, torches eventually run out and then really will completely disappear.

However, Yuji appears to be different in that he’s realized what’s happened and Shana, and the Crimson Lord to whom she is bound, Alastor, deduce that he must be a Mystes - a special type of torch with a “treasure” in mind. With this in mind, Shana decides to use Yuji as bait to catch the Crimson Denizen who ate his existence, since Crimson Denizens have a penchant for collecting such treasures.

Shakugan no Shana is effectively a retelling of the first story arc of the first season of the TV series, though some things are notably different, such as the climax of the movie. As a result, while the movie does a good job getting one familiar with the franchise if one is going to go ahead and watch the TV series, it doesn’t do as good of a job as a stand-alone movie.

Even so, it still tells a rather interesting story competently. The animation is excellent and the music is also pretty good as well.

If you’re looking for a quick intro to the Shakugan no Shana universe, or just want a fun movie to watch, then you might want to check this one out.

Cliffhanger ending episode for the win?

The battle to stop Ball Masque continues, with Wilhelmina and Shana both having a hard time against Hecate and Sydonay. While they’re desperately fighting outside, Yuji regains consciousness and spots Wilhelmina, and he slowly climbs up to retrieve Blutsauger, all the while fighting off the robots and getting his existence slowly absorbed.

Outside, the Flame Hazes gain some reprieve when they discover both Hecate and Sydonay are unable to attack the Statue of Pride. Taking the chance, they use it as a shield, fighting them with their backs towards it. Meanwhile, Yuji has retrieved back Blutsauger and he trudges up ahead to look for the Reiji Maigo. Shana and Wilhelmina continue to fight, and taking a chance, Shana feints an attack to Hecate, punching a hole in to the Statue.

She rushes in and regroups up with Yuji, and they continue onwards to the center of the statue, while it starts to move and break out of the blue shell that has been protecting it. Margery recovers in time to set up a fuzetsu to prevent the city from being damaged as well, and saves Yoshida as well.

Inside, Yuji and Shana finally reach the heart of the statue, and they’re confronted with the Silver armor. They face off with some difficulties, until finally, Yuji figures out that they’ll have to destroy the control mechanism to stop it. Shana immediately aims for it, and she’s helped further when the Silver, who’s being controlled by Hecate, suddenly stops and pauses, apparently because Konoe’s personality emerged from it. While Shana destroys the controls, Yuji stabs the Silver armor and finally retrieves the Reiji Maigo, and they both escape right afterwards. The Ball Masque trio can only watch in disbelief as their plans are foiled yet again.

In the epilogue, the city is repaired, and the Yuji is forced to continue with his choice between Yoshida and Shana. It’s implied he chose Shana, but the final scene of the episode closes with ominous scene of footsteps (probably Yuji’s) disappearing halfway…

They’re soooo making this in to a third season. I’m glad they learned some lessons and didn’t did a half-ass “life goes on” ending, but instead chose to end it in this ominous way. Makes the fans (me included) lust for a third season.

About the final battle, not as awesome as the two major battles before this, but at the least Yuji finally did show some skill of his own, instead of relying solely on Shana. The final part where Konoe’s feelings suddenly burst forth was kinda forced though, but meh, I guess they were trying to make her character of some use.

Kinda sad about Yoshida too, but it’s been expected. I really wanted the stupid love triangle arc to end, since it’s just so one-dimensional, plus they didn’t really develop on it at all, mainly using it as a plot crutch of sorts.

Otherwise… I will say Shana II has been a good season, with the terrible start made up with the awesome second half of the series, marked by awesome Flame Haze fighting and some real plot developments.

Now, we only have to wait till they officially announce Season 4 3.

Summary:

After their usual interaction in the Takasu household, Ryuji and Taiga make a visit to the family restaurant they typically visit. Ryuji is disappointed to find that Minori is off that day, but his attention is soon taken by Taiga who wishes to show him a bag that she likes in a fashion magazine. The girl in the fashion ad, Kawashima Ami, shows up at the restaurant by coincidence, and when she is met by Yusaku soon after, Ryuji and Taiga are baffled. When he sees the two in the restaurant, Yusaku finally introduces Ami to Ryuji and Taiga as his childhood friend. While the four sit down at a table together, Ryuji starts to see that Ami is a very polite and attractive girl. When Yusaku eventually leaves to use the bathroom, Ryuji follows out of nervousness. When Ryuji meets Yusaku, he is asked what he thinks about Ami. Ryuji describes all of the positive things he sees in Ami, but with this, Yusaku simply asks him to watch her from the distance they are at. Alone with Taiga, Ami reveals that she is actually a very stuck up girl who only accepts getting what she wants. Yusaku tells Ryuji that this is Ami’s true nature, and although he notices how well Taiga is putting up with her abuse, the group is forced to separate when Taiga slaps Ami in the face.

Taiga can only express her frustration to Ryuji when they return to the house that night, but she also believes that they will probably never see Ami again. To Taiga’s disappointment, shock, and anger the next day, Ami arrives in her class as a transfer student the next day. Ami continues to use her fake personality to win over everyone in class throughout the day, and while watching this, Ryuji can only wonder to Yusaku why he had not told them that she was transferring to their school. Admitting that he does not hate Ami’s true personality, Yusaku states his wish for others to see it. As it wouldn’t be the best for her, Yusaku does not want Ami to continue to lie. Ami meets Ryuji at the vending machines before class later, then taking the chance to give him an explanation for what had happened the day before. Although Ryuji sees that she is clearly twisting the story, he goes along with it as he returns to class with her.

While note passing in class later, Ryuji gets an awkward note from Minori describing how disappointed she is in him for abandoning Taiga for Ami. Ryuji changes this subject by indirecting asking Minori what she thinks of Ami’s personality, and soon finds that Minori is very against it. Taiga is forced to have Ryuji help her clean her locker after school, but she decides to wait in the classroom rather than returning home before him. Ami finds Taiga while she is in there, then trying several things to get her attention as usual. She is troubled with Taiga seems indifferent to most of her threats, but when she mentions that Yusaku has come to hate her because of what she did earlier, Taiga finally cracks.

After returning home, Ryuji is forced to go to Taiga’s house to cheer her up. He reveals that Yusaku already knows the truth and everything about Ami, then reminding Taiga that he isn’t the type that would come to hate her for something so little in the first place. Taiga finally returns to her normal self after hearing this, and when Yasuko sends her and Ryuji out to by some sauce, Taiga sees a notice in a fashion magazine implying that Ami has stopped modeling temporarily. When Ryuji and Taiga further see Ami in a deceptive outfit on the way home, Taiga believes that she has gathered information to use against her.
